Direct Care Worker (DCW)

Part-time and full-time, W-2 employee Pittsburgh & South Hills

Support older adults and people with disabilities in their own homes across Pittsburgh and the South Hills: personal care, companionship, meals, light housekeeping and a steady, familiar presence. Consistent clients, paid training, and an office that answers the phone.

Job description

Direct Care Workers are the people our clients actually see. You go to the same homes on a regular schedule, help with the parts of the day that have become difficult, and notice the small changes that families miss. Most of the job is practical: bathing and dressing, meals, medication reminders, getting safely from bed to chair to bathroom, laundry, a grocery run, a walk to the mailbox. The rest of it is being a calm, reliable presence for someone who would rather stay at home.

This is non-medical care. You will not do wound care, injections or anything that needs a nurse. You will be trained, supervised and supported by an office in Pittsburgh, not a call center.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care: bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and mobility support
  • Prepare meals and help with eating where needed
  • Give medication reminders as written in the care plan (no administration)
  • Light housekeeping, laundry and errands connected to the client's care
  • Companionship and supervision, including for clients with memory loss
  • Clock in and out of every visit with the EVV app and complete visit notes
  • Report changes in condition, falls, or safety concerns to the office the same day
  • Follow each client's care plan and Cyanjel policies, including HIPAA and abuse reporting

Minimum qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Able to pass the Pennsylvania criminal history check, and the FBI fingerprint check where required
  • Negative TB screening and a physical stating you can perform the duties
  • Reliable phone with a data plan for the EVV app
  • Able to read, write and communicate clearly in English
  • Able to lift, bend and assist clients with transfers safely

Preferred qualifications

  • Home care, CNA, or hospital experience
  • Current CPR / First Aid certification (we can help you get it)
  • Valid driver's license, insured vehicle and a clean driving record
  • Experience with dementia care, hospice support or mobility assistance
  • Fluency in a second language spoken by Pittsburgh families

Requirements for working with clients

  • Complete Cyanjel orientation and the required competency training before the first visit
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance and criminal background check on file before working alone with a client
  • Annual training renewal and TB screening as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Health
  • Respect client privacy: no photos, no sharing of client information, no personal financial dealings with clients
